The Refinery Cafe

The Refinery is a brand new concept jointly developed by the crafty folks of The General Co and the space gurus of Architology.

Part casual dining restaurant, part mixology bar and part designer workspace, The Refinery brings a pool of talented individuals from the fields of culinary, mixology, craftsmanship and design together into a 3-storey complex.

Their aim was to redefine casual dining and social drinking, as well as to defunct the notion that good food and quality drinks must be expensive.
It's all about honest food cooked with refined techniques, and classic drinks mixed with a little twist.

And to top it all off, they house a community of aspiring craftsmen and designers who yearn to create new amazing goods and services for everyone.

Modern classic interior design. They serve different menu for lunch and dinner, so check their menu on their website before heading down.

- Their Lunch Menu.

What had we order for our drink?

- Iced Latte - $5.50

A pretty decent latte that every coffee lover will love it. It's strong and flavorful.

- Iced Vanilla Latte - $6.50

Not recommended as this vanilla latte simply just tasted like normal latte.

- Iced Macadamia Latte - $6.50

Nutty coffee, but the coffee body was very strong too, not suitable for non-coffee drinker.

- Coffee Baller (Macadamia) - $8.50
Flavored Espresso Ice Ball served with warm milk! They have three flavor: Vanilla, macadamia, praline. It's interesting and good. Worth the try.

What had we order for our sides?

- Salted Egg Onion Rings - $8

The onion rings was well fried but it was a tad too salty to out liking. We also can't taste much of the salted egg flavor. We all think that this was just a ordinary fried onion rings. It's not worth the price tag.

Taste: 0.7/5

- Seaweed Truffle Fries - $13

Another disappointing side dish!! This dish is call seaweed truffle fries but we only can taste the seaweed flavor and the truffle flavor doesn't even exist in this dish. I suggest they should their dish name to seaweed fries but overall it tasted good.

Taste: 2/5

Main -

- ‘The Epic’ - $25

Beef Gyudon with Foie Gras, 25 Truffle Hon Shimeiji Mushrooms, Thin Sliced Rib-Eye, Spring Onions, Signature 72 degree Onsen Tamago, Pan-seared Foie Gras.

We really love the texture of the rice and the overall taste. The sauce in it was very addictive too. The beef was soft, tender and flavorful. Everything just combined well!!

Taste: 3.5/5

- Refinery Roll - $25

Chunky Slipper Lobster Meat, In-house Japanese Dressing, Slow Grilled Butter Roll, Mesclun Salad, Served With Side Fries.

This lobster roll was good. The dressing wasn't too overpowering and it work perfectly well with the lobster meat. I guess this portion will not be enough for a big eater or for a guy.

Taste: 2.5/5

Food: 2.6/5
Ambiance: 2.5/5
Service: 2/5

My Verdict:

The ambiance was noisy cause it was full house! The food was good, the main dish is worth the try but not for their side dishes! The side dishes was quite disappointing so just give it a pass. Remember they served different menu during lunch and dinner time.
